Your opening statement in this article is something that I think a lot of people forget, and I was really glad when we talked about it in class. Men were off at war, so they needed the women to step up in the workplace. Women really do not get enough credit for what they did for this country in those times. They were not only raising their children, but also were making money to support the family that was at home while the men were overseas. When the men came back, they took back the jobs, and this became the beginning of the feminist movement.

I agree with most of what you have said and think that its great to see how far women have come in the world. I also don't think that it was fair for women to be fired from their jobs when the soldiers returned from WW2. I think that it is great that more and more women are becoming independent and learning how to balance the household as well as how the men have taken on some more of the womens roles in the house. I know that their are some women out their who still prefer the old times when all they had to do was stay at home and take care of the children, but with today's fast paced society it becomes difficult to expect people to sit back and do nothing during the day.

I really enjoyed your idea of a more social orientated community full of free time. Its seems as though people in this community would be so happy they wouldn't dare loose that membership. My only question would be who is in charge? Is there a council or body of people who make punishments and decide laws? I wish communities could be this happily perfect but unfortunately every civilization has a couple of bad apples. Also, i think maintaining orchards and farms are a lot of hard work and often need their own full time job which is hardly used as "free time". I'm not sure one can accomplish factory duty in 5 hours and then keep up a farm. But other than that, it seems like if everything worked out the way you have in your head, it would be a perfect happy civilization!

I really like your ideas. If only a five hour work day was actually possible. I think people would be really happy with such a short time to work and then so much more time to do whatever else they want. It's easy to see you had a really good time with this post. The part where you send the difficult to send him to participate in some ultimate fighting I thought was hilarious. The layout of your utopia is pretty awesome. A little spaced out, but there's so much for your people to do that the space would actually be better for them.

I like the idea of how you are encouraging people to work and that you give them free time at home to do what they want. However, I would ask if each of the workers are going to get paid well or if they are going to be encouraged to compete against each other. But, your utopia sounds like it would be a blast to live in!

Wow wouldnt that be nice, a 5 hour workday with an hour for lunch!! I'm moving to your utopia!!! Would all the work required to sustain the utopia really be able to be accomplished in just 4 hours a day though? If so, wow they are really hard workers and that is amazing. Your utopia is extremely optimistic and I like the system of order where if someone is disobedient they can have their membership taken away. I really like the layout of your utopia as well but I just have a question about the roads that you put through the river, is this suppose to symbolize a bridge over the river or do you really just have a road going right through it? Otherwise I think your utopia would prove to be very sucessfull.

Great bio. Good information. He is one of the most important figures in human history. His research and scientific discoveries are so pertinent today. We can see present time evidence of his work as plant and animal species are endangered and eliminated forever because they cannot adapt to the changing world environment caused my man.

when we think abotu slavery one of the many words that comes to every one's mind is mistreatment. Slaves were treated horribly, it's been basically been drilled into our heads see we were in elementary school. However, there is always something new that is learned in terms of how they were mistreated. Your example with Sarah to me is just another statistic, and I think that's all she was to her owners. If you refer back to my post I talked about how the white man only cared about the slaves because the more they had, the more it benefited them in terms of money and political power. Sarah to them is just a number.

I agree with your point of how these ads can and still show us the raw deal slavery had over the South rather than reading a definition in a book. Whats even more interesting is how accurate this cruelty is shown through innocent lives, namely the slave girl Sarah. As an audience, we can see the inhumane acts masters do to slaves through the ad when it says Sarah will not tell her masters name. Coming from a 7 year old, you know her life was bad when the innocent run away and know the seriousness of mentioning her master's name could put her right back to him. Adam, although older, also shows the will to be free even more using his intelligence to try to create a "new kind" of African. One who is "educated and independent". Reading of these efforts to escape show how horrible living conditions for slaves were back then.

I find it very difficult to read about children who were slaves but I think its good that you did, it lets us know that back then there were absolutely no respect for humans of a different race, regardless of age. It is very sad that such a young child as Sarah was put in a situation that forced her to live off her own and defend herself against the entire cruelty of humanity. I think you did a very good job in this post because you made the point clear that unlike any encyclopedia, the descriptions of slaves in the virginia gazette illustrated an accurate much bleaker history of slavery in our country.
